Seiko SDWG43 Premier Chronograph

Note to self:

When buying watches with steel bands, stay away from large links.  Taking a link out makes the band too small and tight.  Leaving it in means it will be too loose.

Other than a little too tight, this Seiko chronograph is a nice watch.  It's surprisingly thin, meaning it hugs the wrist and doesn't get in the way of what I'm doing.  The look is understated with bezel indents at the hours and a (very) small date window.  The look reminds me of several Raymond Weil designs I've seen.  It's a little hard to read but it has received a number of compliments and I've worn it quite a bit (you can see the tiny scratches on the mirror finish).

The alarm is soft, more like a peep than a beep and the smallish buttons are sturdy.  To my naked eye, the hands look very exact in their placement on the hour, second, and partial second markers and the sweep is smooth.

When I was a kid, Seiko was considered both rather good and surprisingly good, as Japan wasn't known then for its watch industry.  How times have changed.  While Seiko is still considered a decent consumer brand, the company has remained in the low-end of the market, off-shoring production to China and keeping its Japanese-made products in Japan.  Seiko makes some high-end watches but I believe they're limited to their domestic market.
