This is a project machine.
I saw it on eBay for $20 (and shipping was only ~$25), so I purchased it thinking it would be a good third machine. It has a 4-step buttonhole function and if it's a good one, I thought I could have it set up for buttonholes and not change the settings on my main machines.
The seller didn't list any problems the machine might have; he was in rural Kentucky, his other items being old construction tools and engine parts. It's possible he had no idea whether the machine worked at all. His e-mails were very polite and the machine arrived promptly and was well-packed. The machine is missing the belt and the plastic step indicator on the buttonhole control knob (top right) needs to be re-glued to the knob. These problems are easily remedied. Unfortunately, the machine has a series of paint dings on the bed that weren't really visible in the pictures the seller provided in the eBay listing. It's too bad because it's an attractive machine in a tan and light brown two-tone paint with bright chrome and white dials.
This is yet another version of the JA series machines, 'JA' referring to the Japanese factory in which they were made. Unlike some other models I've seen, I like this one because the knobs themselves are metal with plastic tops (rather than all-plastic). The chrome is shiny and in great condition. Were it not for the paint loss on the bed, this would be a beautiful machine. The case is headed for the garbage.
Once I get it sewing, this Dressmaker will get the full review it deserves. And better pictures.
