Emdeko (Toyota) NH Zig-Zag

  1. I have this same machine and a New Home that are both left-homing needle machines. I am not sure what to do with them. I use my machines mostly for piecing quilts, and neither of these is really good for that. Any thoughts?

  2. To be perfectly honest, I've never sewn with this machine. It's just sitting on the floor in its case and in pristine condition, too.

Do you make clothing or home dec projects? From everything I've read, these are good machines and I don't think the seam allowance issue re. the left-homing position would affect general sewing as much. Since these machines are so inexpensive, we can have a machine set up for every purpose depending upon space, i.e. piecing, buttonholes, long straight seams, all-purpose zig-zag, etc. Buttonholes in particular deserve a separate machine but I haven't purchased an actual buttonhole machine -- yet.

  3. I do make clothing sometimes, but usually use my Janome 6600P. I picked up both the Emdeko and the New Home at thrift stores. The Emdeko got rewired at some point, so it must have been used, but the New Home is in mint condition. I sewed with it just to try it out. It took me a bit to get used to that left-homing needle, but I you're right--they would be good machines for making clothing. I am kicking around the idea of donating them to our local 4-H group. They do a lot of sewing and they might be glad to have some machines.

I love the idea of having a machine for every purpose. I am waiting for my kids to move out (one is a senior in high school, the other bounced back for a year between college and grad school) so I can get all (most?) of my machines set up. Right now, I keep the big Janome set up in my bedroom which doubles as my sewing room, the Kenmore 158.1400 in the spare bedroom (that thing is a tank and sews through anything), and my Necchi BF downstairs in the living room. I am using the Necchi to piece a quilt top at the moment. I also have a Singer 500A, a Singer 223 (that is my zig-zag machine), a 301, a 201, a Sewmor, a Supernova, and I just scored a beautiful Morse Ambassador straight-stitch machine at a local thrift store. They are all so pretty. I would just like to keep them out and look at them.
