I have a small bed of dahlia plants in the garden; I grow them every year. However, I have very few vases. I don't buy vases very often because I'm always buying other stuff. Why would I buy a vase?
I was in a favorite thrift store recently looking for sewing machines and other kinds of machinery (a good drill would be nice). Walking through the knick-knacks and crockery I spotted this vase. I immediately saw that it was a good quality item but I had no idea it was a Baccarat vase. (I know the name because my mom likes crystal and has some Baccarat, a set of Waterford, and some other makes.) Picking it up, it's heavy for its diminutive size. I saw the Baccarat etching near the base (see picture #2 -- you may have to squint), then looked at the bottom and sure enough, there is the etched company logo. I was amazed.
It's not terribly valuable as it's small (I've since found them online for about $80 - $100 -- the large Baccarat vases can be well over $1000) but it's in great shape and was only $3.99. There is a very small scratch just below the rim. This could be easily buffed out.
It's surprising to find something like this in a small town thrift store. And now I have one more place to put some flowers once the plants finally start really blooming.
There's good stuff out there, my friends. Keep looking!
