Necchi BF

I recently remarked on one of the Necchi Facebook group pages (the best Necchi FB group, as it so happens) that my friend Janet likes her some Necchi straight stitch machines.  I can understand her fixation: strong, reliable, smooth, adjustable to the minute gradation, quiet, and handsome.  I also mentioned that I needed a BF to really confirm their high regard as that is the one ubiquitous Necchi straight stitch model I don't yet own.

Well, well, well.  That evening I just *happened* to open CL looking for night stands.  (Yep, I'm already re-decorating the home I haven't yet found.)  The page opened to sewing machines and I found this one, an older (think 1950) BF covered in grime but with eye candy potential.

It needs a complete rewiring (though it does run and how!) and its own bobbin case.  The seller seemed to think it was a really rare, extremely valuable machine and looked hither and yon for an appropriate bobbin case and could not find one.  (I did a 5-second search on eBay and it should be here by next week.)  She also seemed to think it was made in 1926 and that the box of attachments (Greist, natch) were a '...gold mine...'  I didn't argue.  I smiled and nodded, adding my 'Hmmm", "Wow, you don't say...", etc. whenever I could.  When I'm on the giving end of $25, I'm malleable.

So, my Necchi collection is getting there.  I would like an Esperia at some point as well as a few of the earlier machines with the beautiful decals (the ones that are actually from the 1920s).  A few more industrials, perhaps.  And that's it.  And you're all welcome to visit my shrine and light a votive.

  1. That was the model that started my love affair with Necchis (must we refer to it as a "fixation," though? LOL). I should mention that my Necchi BF, at least, is rather particular about its bobbins and really likes the (more expensive) genuine Bernina bobbins. Those Italians have standards, you know. I hope you get many hours of great sewing on this one. :)

    1. LOL I seriously questioned using that word. But I think it's appropriate -- in a good way, of course! :)

This one doesn't have a bobbin case but did come with a couple of original Necchi bobbins. I'll investigate once I do the rewiring, which doesn't look tricky at all (except finding the time to do it).

Thank you and I hope I can get sewing on it, too. Such a beauty. I'm glad to have finally found one.
