Adler 153

Here's another Goodwill find, a beautiful Adler 153 zig-zag in sea green.  If this machine looks familiar, this is the simple zig-zag (straight and zig-zag stitches only) that fits between the 152 and 153A/189A Adlermatic machines Adler produced in the early '50s.  These are some of the heaviest, strongest, fastest domestic machines ever produced and are remarkable for their power.

The 153 has needle position as well as length and width controls, with stitch limiter tabs near the position lever.  The light switch is a toggle at the back and the nose opens, clam shell style, at the touch of a small lever above the back hinge.  The motor is the original Adler made in USA and is 1.2 amps.

As with most of these machines, the belt is disintegrating into a pile of orange chunks and string.  Belts for these machine must either be custom made or retrofitted from an existing belt.  I'm not sure what I'll do but I would like to keep the machine and have it running beautifully.  It's too good a machine to simply trash.  It also deserves a fine case, so we'll see what I can find or make.
